SEO and You
Just a quick post to let all of you shop owners and soon to be shop owners, know about our one of our great features…. SEO.
But before that…. What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and is the activity of ensuring a webpage can be found in search engine results for words and phrases relevant to what the site is offering.
Factors like readability and keywords can help towards improving the SEO score of a page.
Now back to our original point…..
We are offering all of you shop owners the chance to view the readability analysis and keyword analysis of your shops and products.
This feature is optional, and for those of you who would like to make the most of it, you will be able to edit your information in accordance to the on screen SEO suggestions.
Following these suggestions will improve the SEO score for your shops and their items. This in turn will help rank your shops and items higher in online search results.
How to use SEO
Lets say that you are about to publish or edit your shop or one of your items. Scroll down the page a little and you’ll notice a section called “Yoast SEO” (You may have to click the small triangle to the right to display this section).
In this section, you will see two categories; Readability Analysis, and Keyword Analysis.
As you haven’t used this section until now, both of these will have a grey bullet point alongside them. The end goal here is to turn these circles green. (Without compromising the quality of your information).
This is pretty much self explanatory. Basically the more it conforms to the suggestions in the analysis section, the easier it is to read, thus the better the score.
You will see that there are numerous bullet points that mark different key points in reference to the structure and content of your information on the page. These bullet points will be different colours and can change as you change your information and its structure.
No doubt you’ve already worked out what each colour means (Green = Good, Orange = Average, Red = Needs Improvement).
Remember that not all of the individual bullet points need to be green for the overall readability to be given a green bullet point.
This is similar to the readability analysis in the sense that there are also a collection of content checks that analyse the content and structure of the page.
In addition to this, there is also an option to add a keyword and an option to edit how the page might be displayed in a returned search engine result.
Just like the readability criteria, conforming to these can help improve the pages SEO score.
Try editing this section and seeing how it looks in the “Snippet preview” box.
I don’t want to edit any SEO settings
As we’ve mentioned, this feature is completely optional. If you do not wish to partake then feel free to leave this section alone.
So there it is. A great feature for you all to help promote your shops even more. We hope you found this helpful and as always, don’t hesitate to message us with any questions you might have.
All the best
